Obscure Sound — Somerset, UK-based band MothBreath unveil a fantastic dream-pop, shoegaze, and rock intertwining on their eponymous new album. Shades of Cocteau Twins and Beach House show throughout the compelling production, propelled by Kirsty Dougall’s striking vocal presence. “Wolf Eyes” opens the album with a smoky entrancement, traversing through vocal mystique and debonair guitar twangs. An independent spirit is apparent in the lyrics, conveying a simultaneous self-protector and provider; the powerful vocal presence — declaring “she doesn’t need you,” — resonates with an introspective stirring on this atmospheric rock opener. “Wildfire Haze” follows, crafting an impressive one-two starting punch to the album.
